上、下班途中经常看见车祸事故。天灾人祸不能避免，当发生意外之后，我们应该如何妥善处理呢？
1. 保持镇静。就地停车， EMERGENCY PARKING 。将车熄火，拿走钥匙，注意保管好自己的贵重财物，如果附近有目击证人，第一时间记下证人的姓名和电话，这样以后会省很多麻烦。
2 . 保护现场：不要让双方车辆移离事故现场 ，除非已经拍照完毕，责任不言自明比如后车追尾。( 在高速上例外，如能移动车辆，要尽快将车移至右侧的路肩，以免发生更大的车祸)；
3. 不要随便道歉说SORRY,你不是警察也不是法官，不需要自己给自己定罪，不要激动更不要与对方理论，你只需要记下事实。
4. 如有人员伤亡，马上打911以便抢救，注意讲清楚事故地点。
5. 如果估计有1，000加元或1，000加元以上的车辆损失，就需要打911请警察前来处理并出报告。
6． 对双方车辆和事故现场进行照像以便保留事故纪录。（注意常带着相机，至少要有带照相功能的手机），还要拍下周围环境，比如附近的交通灯，STOP SIGN，路上的标线等。
7． 交换以下信息，如果对方不肯交换信息又不肯私了，马上打911：
(1) 对方司机的驾照号码，姓名，电话， 一定要查验对方的驾照，这是最重要的，切记。
(2)记下对方车辆的车主姓名、地址，可以在保险单上找到。
(3) 如有可能记下对方车辆的VIN # (Vehicle Identification Number，不是必须要记下VIN号码)，在车的挡风玻璃下，或在司机一策的门内侧。VIN 是17位编码，由数字和字母组成。 VIN 是车的身份证。
(4) 对方车辆的出厂年份、厂家、型号、投保省份、车牌号。
(5) 对方车辆的保险公司名字，保单号。
(6)如果有目击证人注意填写证人姓名、地址及电话号码。
(7)如有可能，简单画出事故草图。
(8)如果涉及第三方或更多方车辆和司机，要记下同样的信息。
(9)如有人员受伤，要记下自己一方及对方受伤人员的姓名、地址及联系电话。
8．做完以上各项后，双方不想私了就可以去COLLISION CENTRE报案，那里的警察会给车辆拍照，记录事故经过，并给你一个报案号码，凭此报案号码就可以给你的保险公司打电话了，电话号码在你的保单上。
保险公司会要求报出你的姓名、驾照号码、车牌号码、电话号码一类信息验证你的身份。然后就是你报告事故经过：地点，事故程度，对方车辆及司机信息、事故直接原因，有无警察报告或COLLISION CENTER的报案号码等，保险公司接电话的人会给你一个申报号（Claim No.）,并确定你的验车时间、地点，然后按步骤行事就可以了。
